Blazer alteration
This design was created for a school assignment with the goal to alter a blazer off the rack into a specific aesthetic of our choosing. I decided on a dystopian. style and play with sourced materials using different functions than their intended purpose. I sketched out several options and decided to combine my favorite elements of them into one design to guide me. I used a synthetic liquid dye to slightly change the color from a muted gray with green undertones to an army green. I chopped the sleeve on one side to create a separate bracer. I then cut that piece to better fit my forearm and added a zipper. I used a gutter grate to cut out a bracer to fit around my forearm. I sanded down to edges on the grate so it was not as sharp. I added pleather straps with snaps to secure the grate to my arm. I fabricated a wide belt using a canvas fabric, woven trim, and a buckle. I repurposed a kneepad into a shoulder pauldron. I scuffed up the plastic surface on some concrete and sandpaper. I then spray painted the plastic and the clips in layers of a black base and a light silver top coat. I elongated the top strap with elastic and connected it with a buckle. I distressed the fabric edges, using a hammer, meat tenderizer, and a steel plate. I used some spray dyes to discolor and add dirt to the jacket and belt. I then made chainmail out of soda can tabs to create a bit of armor on the opposite shoulder. I bent the tabs slightly, then cut the center of the top loop, hooked them together, and then repeated the process until I was satisfied with the amount. I then hand stitched the sheet onto the jacket.
