Critical Role is a Dungeons and Dragons live play web series, that recently was adapted into an animated series. My favorite character from their first campaign is Vax'ildan, a quick witted rogue, who loves his twin sister more than anything in the world. After a series of unlucky rolls from the players, Vax makes a deal with their world's god of death to trade his sister's life for his. With this deal, he then became a champion for her, where he later would take up the role to guide lost souls to the afterlife. Vax and Vex's story is one that I hold close to me, as it reminds me of the bond that my sister and I have. I wanted to be able to find another use for my senior thesis' ribcage corset, but to also design my own version of Vax's Champion of the Matron of Ravens design. I wanted to incorporate the raven wings into the cape, rather than building out bulky and uncomfortable wings. Adding the touch of gold to the design was important to me, to give it more depth and dimension, while also giving a nod to the animated version's design.
