Stranger Things is a Netflix series about a small town in Indiana that is mysteriously having people disappear with nothing left behind. The fourth season of the series features a new character, Eddie, that is beloved by the group of teenagers, as he is the Dungeon Master in their Dungeons and Dragons game. The show takes place in the 80's at the height of the "Satanic Panic," which highly effected the public's perception of Eddie. In the show, he is a passionate guitarist, and features a solo, at the end of the world, playing Master of Puppets by Metallica. I wanted to design a version of him, immersing this character into his own Dungeons and Dragons game, as a bard. I also wanted to incorporate his iconic style and that of the metal bands he adored. Using all of this combined research, I designed the concept art for my version of Eddie the Bard. I used modern fabrics (such as leather and denim) and historical styles to create this cosplay. The sleeve banding features an embroidered d20's, the main dice used in Dungeons and Dragons. The peplum trim is music staffs that I am currently hand beading the notes to Master of Puppets onto. The guitar is a little nod to the wonderful set and prop designers, who gave him an acoustic guitar painted with the phrase "this machine slays dragons."
